EPF Calculator
Estimate employee and employer contributions, interest earned and your projected EPF balance.
EPF Calculator: Estimate employee contribution, employer EPF share, interest and projected EPF balance using your Basic + DA, contribution rates, assumed EPF interest rate and investment period. The calculator is for planning only because EPS diversion, wage-ceiling rules and actual interest credit can affect the final balance.

This calculator is an illustrative projection only. Actual EPF contributions, EPS allocation, wage ceiling, interest credit and eligibility depend on applicable EPFO rules and the employee’s circumstances.
What Is EPF Calculator?
The Employee Provident Fund (EPF) is a crucial retirement benefit for employees in India’s organised sector. It is managed by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). Both employers and employees contribute to this savings fund, ensuring financial security post-retirement.
An EPF calculator is an online planning tool designed to help individuals estimate provident fund savings over time. By entering salary, contribution assumptions, interest rate and investment duration, the calculator provides an illustrative projection of the EPF balance. Actual results can differ because statutory wage ceilings, EPS allocation, contribution rules and notified interest credits may apply.
Latest Update:
The calculator uses 8.25% as an editable annual interest assumption. Check the rate applicable to each financial year rather than assuming one rate remains in force throughout a long projection.
What Is EPF?
The Employee Provident Fund or the EPF is a retirement benefits scheme for salaried employees in the private sector. The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) manages the EPF. Any organisation or firm with 20 or more employees gets covered under the EPFO. The Employees Provident Fund Organisation operates three schemes.
- The EPF Scheme 1952
- The Pension Scheme 1995
- The Insurance Scheme 1976.
The employees who fall under the EPF scheme make a fixed contribution of 12% of the basic salary and the dearness allowance towards the scheme. The employer should also make an equal contribution to the EPF scheme. The EPFO Central Board of Trustees fixes the EPF interest rates every financial year after consulting the Ministry of Finance. The EPF Interest Rate for Financial Year 2024-25 is 8.25%.
The employer contribution is not always credited entirely to the EPF account. Under the standard contribution structure, part of the employer share can be diverted to EPS and the balance credited to EPF, subject to the statutory wage ceiling, EPS eligibility and other applicable EPFO rules. This is why the calculator keeps the employer EPF rate editable instead of assuming that every member receives the same split.
EPF membership and contribution treatment depend on current coverage rules and individual circumstances. A 21 September 2026 PIB release reports an increase in the mandatory-coverage wage ceiling to ₹25,000 per month effective 17 September 2026. Confirm the operative rules with EPFO and payroll rather than relying on older ₹15,000 coverage statements.
EPF Calculator FAQs
What EPF interest rate should I use?
The calculator currently uses 8.25% p.a. as the default assumption. EPF interest is decided for each financial year, so check the latest notified rate before making a long-term estimate.
Is EPF contribution always 12%?
The standard employee contribution is generally 12% of eligible wages, although a 10% rate applies to certain establishments. Higher employee contributions may also be possible in specific cases, while the employer is not automatically required to match the higher voluntary rate.
How can wage-ceiling rules affect EPF?
Coverage, the contribution wage base and EPS allocation are related but separate questions. Verify the applicable current rules with payroll and EPFO. This simplified projection accepts wage and contribution-rate assumptions; it does not decide legal coverage or automatically apply every ceiling.
Why does the calculator ask for employer EPF percentage?
Part of the employer contribution may go to EPS rather than EPF. Keeping the employer EPF percentage editable makes the calculator more flexible for different contribution situations.
Is the EPF maturity amount guaranteed?
No. The result is an estimate. Actual EPF balance depends on salary changes, contributions, EPS allocation, withdrawals or transfers, interest rates notified for each year and EPFO rules.

What Is EPF Calculator?
The EPF calculator is an online financial tool that calculates the total PF amount or maturity amount you will receive after retirement from your employment. This maturity amount will include both your and your employer’s contributions and the interest credited to your account. The data required to calculate your PF amount is as follows:
- PF contribution/ investment month every month, quarter, half-year or yearly
- PF interest rate
- Duration of contribution
- Frequency of EPF contribution
EPF Amount Calculation Formula
To understand how to calculate EPF, let us have an example.
- Employee basic salary + dearness allowance = Rs 14,000
- Employee contribution towards the EPF = 12% * 14,000 = Rs 1,680
- Employer contribution towards the EPF = 3.67% * 14,000 = Rs 514
- Employer contribution towards EPS = 8.33% * 14,000 = Rs 1,166.
- The total contribution by the employer and employee towards the EPF account of the employee = Rs 1,680 + Rs 514 = Rs 2,194.
- Now with the Applicable interest rate 8.25% p.a, the monthly earned interest will be; 8.25% ÷ 12 = 0.6875%
Dividing 8.25% by twelve gives a monthly modelling rate of 0.6875%. This arithmetic alone does not establish the interest credited on a real passbook balance: contribution dates, eligible monthly balances and the annual crediting method must also be considered.
Use the selected investment period to compare projections. Reconcile an actual account with the EPFO passbook rather than treating the projected balance as a statement of entitlement.
How Can PF Calculator Help You?
- Financial Planning Support: A PF calculator aids salaried individuals in planning their retirement by providing a clear view of their projected Provident Fund (PF) balance at retirement, helping them understand how much they need to save monthly to meet their financial goals.
- Effortless Tracking: It automates the calculation of total contributions and interest accrued over time, eliminating the hassle of manual calculations and ensuring accuracy in the tracking of their retirement savings.
- Assumption review: Update your planning inputs when salary, contributions or notified rates change. The tool does not automatically update every statutory rule.

How to read your EPF result
Review employee contributions, employer allocation and projected fund growth separately. Actual EPF/EPS treatment depends on statutory rules, wage basis and your employer payroll configuration.
Planning note: Compare the estimate with your EPFO passbook and payroll records.
